About the Design

From the conference program and conference signage:

This year’s apparel design is by ASTC’s Manager of Communications Kelly Tang, an artist and art historian. She drew inspiration from the iconic painting A Sunday on La Grande Jatte (1884) by Georges Seurat in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.

A dodo skeleton surveys a grand scene of socializing, music-making, and stargazing. An impossibly large tardigrade tiptoes in between weekend crowds. The huge compound eyes of a fruit fly stare back at the viewer from a distant tree. In an outdoor scene of public leisure and recreation, a world of specimens, phenomena, and knowledge thrives. The gathering is an invitation for the viewer to participate—between the Van de Graaf generator and the DNA double helix, inside the museum and outside its walls—in a shared future of science engagement for all people.
